“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13
When Moses spent time with God, his face was radiant with God’s glory (see Exodus 34:29). And just as a shining face brought astonishment to the Israelites, the courage of Peter and John also astonished the crowd in the first century. Realizing there was nothing really special about the two, the people attributed it all to the company they had kept. They had been with Jesus.
Surely, no greater praise could be given a woman of God than for a person in her day-to-day-life to note, “That girl has been with Jesus.” What is it that gives us away? For Peter and John, it was their courage. Freedom from sin brings freedom to really live. As the condemnation of sin is swept out of my life, it is replaced with a joyful peace that both compels and propels me to live and speak for Him. Peter and John said it best, “For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:20
Lord, thank you saving an ordinary girl like me. Thank you that you delight in using the ordinary and unschooled. I pray that as I spend time daily with you, it would show on my face, in my words, with my actions, and in how I spend my time.
